I am having a terrible time trying to get the Live Chat and WhatsApp agents to give a decent reply.

My son has a MTN prepaid sim and I have put him on Afrihost MobileXS. I want to be able to add some prepaid minutes that he can use when his bundled minutes expire.. So I asked if I could purchase a few hundred Rands worth of Afrihost prepaid minutes and whether these would only be used when the bundled minutes are depleted. In a garbled reply I was told that I should buy MTN prepaid minutes.

Basically I want a recurring bundle of 1Gb data every month with some minutes. I would also like to have some minutes prepaid that have an expiry date longer than the 2 seconds MTN offers. I don't want the auto topup because these also expire about 3 seconds after you have purchased them.

I doubt you can bundle additional minutes as a bolt on on to the packages.

Firstly because they don't sell minutes, only airtime to be used as either minutes (R0.99 per minute (charged per second)) or sms.

And secondly because their allocation system (despite saying no rollovers) is based on a maximum of twice the monthly allocation. So if he is getting R40 airtime to use as minutes included in the bundle this month, and you buy him another R50 adhoc, but he only uses R30 for the month, that leaves R60 balance at the end of the month. When the new month starts, instead of giving him another R40 as per the bundle allotment, they will only give him R20 because the balance at the time of allocation can only be a maximum of twice the bundled amount (R80).

I can't even explain it myself properly so I sympathize with those agents, it's a silly system and hard to explain. This is why I have decided now to go against my earlier plan of total migration to Afrihost Mobile. I'm sticking with using APN only and using MTN for calls. Just buying MTN airtime that does not expire and use it at call rate of R0.99/min (charged per second).

Best is to send him an additional amount of Afrihost airtime as and when he runs low (monitor the app) or to just go back to the system of MTN airtime for voice, and Afrihost APN for data.

If he is on a a topup MTN package the number can not be provisioned for Afrihosts mobile packages. Only Prepaid numbers can be provisioned for Afrihost mobile (Airtime and data packages)

You can however sign up for their mobile APN packages as that can be provisioned.
