I'm leaving my flat unattended for a few days over Christmas, so I thought it would be fun to setup a live webcam feed to keep an eye on it.

I simple still capture every minute or 2 should suffice.

I am tech savvy, but I'm fairly illiterate when it comes to web development.
I have my own domain via cybersmart's free hosting option, which is standing empty at the moment. What I want to do is set it up to have a simple login, and then an image captured from the cam and a time stamp.

I only have the rest of today to set this up, but if there's an easy way to setup something more complex (email alerts if movement is detected?) or an alternate to using a website, then I'm all ears.

I have in the past just left my PC on and logged in via VNC to check the cam, but that's rather cumbersome, and the changing IP doesn't help either.

Thanks!

Search for webcam software.

There are many, some paid/shareware/free with different functions.

Find one that has what you need, many have ftp upload functions

Check this out, the trail should be enough for the period you will be away.

This looks good. I'd still like to set it up manually at some stage, but this will perhaps serve my needs for now.

I have another noob question I should be too embarrassed to ask. I registered my domain and got free hosting from cybersmart. What username/password do I use to FTP in? Is there a default?

Its most likely the same one as the password for cpanel, if there is a cpanel that is :P Just try the one they send you.

They haven't sent me anything, which is why I think there must be a well known default. Okay, last noob question, how do I access cPanel?

yoursitename.co.za/cpanel

Maybe your username that you login to their site or maybe your adsl account details haha i have no idea

I'll have to contact support, as I have no idea what the password is. It's not the same as any of my other login details.
