Is Liveview on SLR camera's the same thing as the the compact camera guys have been using and are used to?

Yes - buy try holding a camera with a 300mm f/2.8 at arms length for any time and you'll understand why I dont really consider Liveview as much of a feature on a dslr.

Thanks MMM ;)

bwana - Agreed! Can't you hold them from the lens though? Don't some large lens even have the tripod thread on the lens itself?

I'll be honest - a piece of me was hoping they'd replace it with a new one and could negotiate to put the other R3,000.00 in to get the 550D ...

Sure you can. In fact it is preferable to cradle a lens with one hand instead of having two hands on the body. It relieves some of the strain on the mount.

And yes, some of the lenses do come with tripod collars - though I tend to just use them more often that not as a handle to carry the camera/lens :)

I use the liveview on my k20d very seldom, perhaps a few times every fortnight, for those weird angles. Actually this thread makes me want to use it more...
But I dont like it as much as the clarity of my katz-eye.

I must say on Landscapes I use it almost 100%. Helps me on framing exposure simulation etc.

Last time I used liveview it was to level my pool table. :o
