LLC vs VC

Please educate me on the difference between LLC and VC

I'm having some issues. My ISP says I should use LLC, but setting the modem to VC got me connected.

Thanks agentrfr, great technical explanation, although a bit much for me to wrap my head around.

I found elsewhere on MyBB that VC goes with PPPoA and LLC with PPPoE. What I don't get is why you then need to set the VPI and VCI values when using LLC. I thought VPI and VCI goes with VC.

I'm still confused.
