Seems my quad LNB has been struck by lightning. Should I continue using a Quad or is there something that will be better ie SATCR. I am not sure if SATCR enables the 2P to play and record only on one cable as it appears that most SATCR LNB's only come with one additional port.

Any suggestions?

I prefer the sat cr. It doesn't work like a normal lnb so don't get confused. I like it because it's less cables than the other and you don't need that silly multi switch that came with the Explorer. Buy the one from space tv. It's the inverto brand

Was it struck by a Lightning Bolt?

Get another quad LNB, much better option especially if you have all the cables setup already

Only thing that worries me is if the switch has also been struck. Usually in the past (3 times in the previous summer), the lightning strikes the LNB and the multiswitch. The switch for the Explora is quite expensive. I am not sure how to test the switch. I do have a multimeter but I don't know how to operate it. Will google a bit. If the switch has gone then it is cheaper to go with the SATCR

That seems logical. Just bypass the switch and run one cable from the sat cr port on the lnb to the sat cr port on the decoder. All problems are solved. Don't use the legacy ports on the lnb.
