Right so we all know that Eskom simply must implement load-shedding when the power stations can't handle the loads. But is it a load of BS?

Consider for a moment that money may be allocated to Eskom. But Eskom might be withholding maintenance or so the speculation goes.

IF true
it shows that Eskom is trying to manipulate the public in giving it yet more demands. It seems they burn money directly and don't even bother to over pay for coal anymore, but I digress.

The truth is Eskom doesn't need outside coal plants, they have the funds to buy their own. Eskom doesn't need prolonged outages because they have the ability to repair the plants but willfully "or so it seems" withhold maintenance again this is speculation.

But this is where I don't blame Eskom. I blame social media, news entities that do poor investigations.

If I who is a nobody can get "some" information about what is happening. How is it that, no one wants to go on record? Why is it that no one wants to simply speak out? Simply put the lack of people speaking out shows that Eskom has a serious problem, more importantly because no one is speaking out it shows that Eskom is keeping a tight lip on what is really going on. How is this for transparency?

Eskom demands money from the private sector, wants to penalize everyone for owning solar and just add more and more demands on the people. Yet Eskom denies us basic info on what is happening. Where are the photos and videos of plants being repaired, parts being obtained and installed? Where are the recordings of meetings? Who are the decision makers? Where is the transparency?

Are the NDA contracts that scary? Are Eskom that intimidating towards their workforce? Well the lack of info speaks volumes and it is time that we the public demand that everything gets reported on a live system with direct unedited full transparency. In short Eskom shouldn't have any secrets. Our plants are OLD to the point that no one can really benefit from secrecy unless they have something to hide.

The message was sent a while back that it works,
Hell they even use it for increases as seen in the last round of stage 6.

Not gonna change either.

Considering the technical limitations to generating capacity

No

The root cause of the technical issues varies, politics, people, corruption etc etc

Blackmail, lol. They do like to run the grid into smoke when they engage in politicking or do general electioneering. Just wait until the ANC's presidential election time, the grid will work wonder with the new board in charge until next year they place their woes on de Ruyter and Oberholzer poorly handing over Eskom months earlier in a poorer state. Just how it works around here.

people dont hold government to account, people in SA just dont give a toss.
they go out and Vote like blind little sheep ANC, and consider a roof over their head a "upgrade" from sleeping on the street

also dont forget many Dont know better than what they see at the moment,
so for them power cuts are normal, they never had Electricity before, so why complain?

It would be a very shortsighted blackmail tactic as it comprises two elements that would cause people to move away from Eskom:
  • Load shedding - encourages people to explore alternatives to grid power
  • Price increases - encourages people to explore alternatives to grid power
And those that can afford to look elsewhere are the only domestic consumers that are paying. Pretty soon Eskom will only have energy intensive businesses as their sole source of income.

Eskom blackmailing requires a lot of coordination and effort. That's something our government just isn't good at.

It's far more likely that this is just a result of incompetence and negligence.
Not to mention that the ANC are looking mighty bad in the eyes of the electorate. The ANC actually broke power stations to make it look like they fixed power stations when they were busy stealing all that maintenance money, etc. The Eskom management goons of old deferred maintenance, depleted coal stock piles to artificially look like they were making profit and earning fat bonuses.

No blackmail. Just reaping the benefits of those times.

My take on this.....

It's complete nonsense and it's not a secret either. The entire world has been moving to renewables. Everybody knows this. It doesn't have to be hidden or be a massive secret. We have known for decades already that coal and fossil fuels are on the way out (this hasn't just come to light in the last 3 years). And this hasn't just been happening in South Africa either, this has been happening all around the World. But South Africa has been willing to keep their coal fired plants going because of the Energy Crisis and the shortfall in power. The ANC is not trying to scuttle their own power supply... that makes them look bad. If they want to switch to renewables they can just do it without destroying their current supply. Because that is the way the world is currently going anyway. It makes no sense to destroy what they currently have when that is due to be phased out anyway. So this conspiracy theory is complete nonsense.
The ANC is the government... They make the policy. They don't have to do it secretly, when they can just announce it and do it public.
It's a ridiculous conspiracy theory. Why do they need to hide their plan to switch to renewables when that is the way the entire world is going anyway?
Everybody would have clapped for them if they had announced a switch to renewables... people WANTED them to switch to renewables...
It could have been phased in with no hassle at all. Would have certainly prevented this crisis....
