With a GDP of roughly 3000 ZAR, an initial forecast of about 3% growth the cost of loadshedding will put S.A. in to a recession ?

According to Yelland's calculations, Stage 1 load shedding – using 10 hours of blackouts per day for 20 days a month as parameters – costs the economy around R20 billion per month, while Stage 2 and Stage 3 robs the economy of R40 billion and R80 billion per month respectively.Feb 10, 2015 (source)

A couple of months' loadshedding will hamper the economy enough to place us in recession resulting in a worsened CPI and possibly social unrest. More reading material on the subject ?

This has been discussed before, check for threads around the time of the article launch. I can't be bothered, there are way too many load shedding power station threads out there.

I remember the relevant thread, but can't find it. I don't think the GDP/recession was brought into it if I remember correctly.

Yes it was... we've been giving eskom grief about it constantly.
