Hi,
Is there any consensus on what connections stay up with powercuts?
I stay in Pineslopes, Jhb, and my Telkom phone and ADSL go down as soon as the power cuts. A couple of years ago they would stay up so they must have tossed the UPS.
Also with Telkom mobile - data is impossible straight after a cut, voice GSM lasts about 2 hrs.

It's a mix and match - there aren't any golden providers. Telkom doesn't treat all areas with the same focus.

For eg, I live in CPT CBD and don't experience load-shedding whatsoever - the CBD is considered "critical infrastructure" and is thus exempt from shedding. My fibre is always online with Cybersmart, whose DC is in the CBD. Much of Telkom's fibre and DSL infrastructure has generator backup but it's not a given, as you've experienced first-hand.

Best bet is for another person in your same predicament in Pineslopes to shed some light.
