Does anyone know of the existence of a (preferably free) app that will work on iOS and Windows that makes use of the EskomSePush API to shut down ones computer a few minutes before loadshedding and start it up again after loadshedding ends?

Can imagine there is an app that will do the shutdown not the wake-up

As it would have to edit the bios to set a wake timer , which would not be allowed as it is behaviour you expect of virus

Unless you get an app to do the power down

And set the bios to have a "on" state on power return state

Not sure if it will work, have not tested the behaviour of this power state setting if the pc was "off" it does power back on if it was on

You could use wake-on-LAN to turn your PC on again, but you'd need another device on your network to do so.

Yea maybe the router can be that low power device

If it supports it , or maybe get some custom firmware like openwrt or other if it is supported

I would recommend you make use of a small ups. I know it's not free, but it's the best solution by far.

Almost all ups models come with software that can shut down a PC when the battery level on the ups goes below a certain threshold.

This tend to work the best, because it not only caters for loadshedding, but also unannounced power cuts. Let's face it we live in South Africa.

Turning it back on, well that's a bit more difficult.

Most motherboards have a similar setting, something like "turn on pc after power is resorted", but for this to work you usually have to cut the power and not do a shutdown, which is what we want to avoid and not do 3 times a day.
