Hey guys,

Well.. over a period of 3 or 4 weeks i've seen/been part of about 25 conversations about this local cap issue. As far as I understand it, there has been no official word from Telkom saying that they are going to implement a local cap, right?

Please can someone clear up the fog here for me  If possible.

Thanks guys.

“This will be a more elegant solution to this problem, although it obviously means that we will have to be more rigorous in enforcing the bandwidth cap, and the current situation of unlimited local bandwidth will also come to an end,” says White.

“Meanwhile, for those clients who require really high-speed broadband, we will also launch our 1Mb offering in August.”
.

:/ yeah.. i've read that about 20 times. But I was wondering if they had said anything more on it? Because "and the current situation of unlimited local bandwidth will also come to an end" is not really anything to go by?

What do you mean it's not anything to go by ?
Exactly what don't you understand here ?
unlimited local bandwidth will also come to an end

I don't think it could be clearer than that, it's either unlimited or it's not.
It's crystal clear from the sentence above that it will no longer be unlimited.

Skint, no one knows yet what Telkom have in mind, so it's no good speculating. We just have to wait and see.

@ bb_matt:  Sorry for living.

@ VQuest: yeah fo sho, oh well.. over it. Was just wondering if anyone had any more info.

whait a minuet ? so no one has a clue what they are up to ?? this is crazy, with such a important issue !! i mean what if you only get 1GB of local stuff ?!? or your cap goes and then there is no net ?? could telkom ask it to stop for me while i wait ?

Well, I think we'd all like to know what kind of "limit" will be imposed (assuming that is still the case), and that's what Skinty was originally asking.

Im using a mates adsl at the moment and hes capped, i cannot imagine how people have not done something horrible to them. Cant wait to get home to my uncapped wireless :(

/Pure speculation ...

and the current situation of unlimited local bandwidth will also come to an end

and the current situation of unlimited local bandwidth will also come to an end. Instead, they will now also have the option of ...

or

and the current situation of unlimited local bandwidth will also come to an end. We have changed policy and are going to ignore our existing contractual obligations, from now on we will no longer provide unlimited local bandwidth after the 3GB cap, so screw the existing users and our contractual obligations.

or

and the current situation of unlimited local bandwidth will also come to an end. We will instead charge 200 times more and there's nothing anybody can do about it. Ha ha ha ha ha.

or

and the current situation of unlimited local bandwidth will also come to an end. All bandwidth will be considered unlimited, including international bandwidth. We will wipe out any and all competition.

or

... anybody - anybody ...

Well ... then I think If telkom intruduce this local Cap thing then this should also bring an end to monthly adsl accounts, if that is the case then I think to some sense it will work out nicely .... by this I mean if I buy an adsl account of 30 GB then I should use it for as long as I like ( I shoud'nt) be restricted to finishing the whole cap within the month... Just like prepaid airtime, prepaid electricity ... meaning If I use 15GB of my 30 GB in a month it's shouldn't be up to them to dictate ... Think about it! It would be nice prepaid ADSL.... :D

Telkom would be stupid to do this, talk about a step backwards ... talk about Telkom opening the door for the SNO to whip em! Besides if they made public noise about it we would have to fight back, it is up to us. Consumer power rules, the reason we need to put our foot down and tell these telecoms boys where to get off ... "enough, we are sick of being ripped off and having the rules changed mid stream"!
