is there any free local sites like dyndns?

None that I am aware of. Any specific reason why it needs to be local? The reason I'm asking is with the advent of cheap uncapped, this should no longer be much of an issue.

Your pretty much stuffed then - I also searched for a while and eventually gave up. Used everydns.com

ok well i got it working

i went and registered an account with

www.activedns.co.za and then downloaded their update tool and now i can connect with tightvnc and remote desktop

and it cost R10 a month to get that local dyndns

There is Dynami DNS, which is free, http://www.dynami.co.za/

also you can use DYNDNS, and whatsmyip.co.za to send updated to DYNDNS, if you using ddclient script
