Hi,

I am looking for a local hosting provider that can also setup free nameservers on a shared account, i`m not looking for a reseller account as we will only use the local account should the international link go k@k again.

Most local hosts only allows for 1 domain on their DNS, so from what I understand, you need a DNS for multiple sites, so unfortunately a reseller account has to do for now. Otherwise, you could contact any local host directly and inquire about if they sell DNS only accounts, some of them charge per domain.

I use editdns.net, it's international, but has 5 servers around the world in several DC's, so no single point in failure.

Ja sorry @3com also not clear on your requirements:
Are you wanting web hosting where you are given access to DNS settings for that hosting? You have it all set up with a mirror of your sites and if there is an international glitch, you change nameservers temporarily?

Ample hosting offer multi-domain packages in South Africa and these are on cPanel so they probably have the "DNS Zone Editors". Not sure though if that is what you are looking for.

Hi,

I have bought a server and now going to install in IS data center, much cheaper than asking a VISP to host it and setup nameservers for the server. Some quoted up to R 1000 for a simple nameserver setup, it takes me 2 mins to so on my cpanel server.

Thanks anyways.

Yup, told ya... unfortunately you're going to have 1 big problem though, you'll have a single point of failure. Even you'll probably have a minimum of 2 IP addresses on the box, they'll still "live" on the same machine which means if the machine restarts or go down (which it will) you'll most probably have your sites go down as well, which defeats the purpose of this exercise

Naa, dont think so, the 2 main servers, one in USA and other in UK, each server covers the other should one go down. Now for the local clients that pays a bit more $$$$ can get a local backup service should the international link also give **** again. The server has 5 dedicated Ip`s where we assign the new nameservers and then update current client domain server info`s. Its a new DELL server, so i dont think it will give me k@k and using linix with cpanel that is the best for hosting. Only win serversd has give us **** every month, with the linux servers be reboot every 6 months.

That might be true, but have you been out of the country the last couple of months? When IS went down (yes, the DC) including MTN Business (aka, all of Hetzner)?

But yea, at least (you hope) that international access won't go down at the same time as your server as well leaving your local clients stranded anyway. At least you don't have a single point of failure :)

For interest sake, how much is this costing you per month @ IS?

A lot of green, i am mostly going to pay extra for bandwidth usage. So, my budget for the whole exercise will be about R 5000 - R7000 per month. Trust me, when you have the clients i have its best to pay up and get a local server as backup.
