Okay, so first off I have an IS account and have exceeded my cap. I was under the impression that I would have full local speeds, but this is hardly the case. I am starting to think that once you have reached your cap, there is some wierd shaping being applied because I battle to even connect to my companies servers and they have a fat pipe to IS. Even the speeds from the IS newsserver are pathetic (I know there have been some issues lately). But i mean look at these traceroutes below (hop 10) and this site loads relatively quick compared to others.

This is not broadband...this is not even comparable to a 9600 modem. I suspect that I dont have full local speeds and thats what I'm really moaning about. What to do...what to do...

I suspect your having internet problems, Ive been using IS while capped for 2 months allready, one month before it was even implimented yet, and I definitely dont get slower local speeds than before the cap. No I dont have a special IS account, its the same as any other user, and I also need to pay the same price :P

IS may be having regional peering problems to UUNET? myadsl.co.za is running on UUNET or what was the traceroutes about?

Are you 100% sure you are the only one connected currently to your account, and if there isnt any other systems on your network downloading perhaps?

Your international after cap is correct, in fact you shouldnt even have access according to the package offered.

Should ask your ISP to give you comments on regional IS problems perhaps, Im not aware of any but perhaps your ISP may know.

Well I signed up with Openweb. The point I'm trying to make with the traceroute is to show the high latency and lack of consistency. I use Dominic's ADSL stats analyser so I know that I am the only one connected to my account. I also use DU Meter so have a pretty good idea what kind of speeds I'm getting. Am I the only one with these issues? Here is some more detail

Below is the log of my OpenVPN client trying to connect to a local server (I commented out IP's)

Yes I can see the difference, all I dont understand, I dont get the same performance on my capped account.

Obviously you have a problem, I just dont know where to pinpoint because its not at all my results.

Any other capped IS adsl users care to comment? What do you get on your capped account locally?

Where you located Slip ?
We're in BedfordView and our 1024 line cannot even get a speed of a 512 line from ftp.is.co.za.
It's pathetic.
We're in pursuit of a decent ISP.

I'm in Douglasdale, I suspect it has to do with the IP you get allocated once you capped

Hmmm.
Our situation is uncapped, and it's still pathetic, so mabey whether you're capped or not does not matter, maybey IS's network and IS<->SAIX peering is just carp.

killadoob said:
clipse you do resell is accounts correct?

if he has a problem what could it be

Yes I do resell IS, as I said, hes not my customer and I havnt had customers reporting issues like this.

I believe its best to contact your ISP to work out a way around this problem.

Mr Beep is gonna sort this one out for me...:-)...Thanks

I am capped on my OpenWeb account and still downloading local at full speed. My VPN to work is running without problems. Gaming is great. I have no problems playing on the SAIX Battlefield 2 servers. I am as happy as a pig in Palestine with the OpenWeb acount.:D
