We are all aware of the "Local is Lekker" attitude of Telkom.
I'm involved in the local Information Provider sector - so I would love to make the "Local is Lekker" slogan work.
The major problem for this to work, is volumes. Telkom just makes it just too costly for people to use the local internet.
So, thanks to Telkom, Local is not as Lekker as it should be.
What Telkom does not realise is that for each byte transferred from a local site, somebody already pays TELKOM for bandwidth.
If they were to slash ADSL prices, they would sell even more bandwidth to local suppliers.
If the were to make dial-up calls to the ISP's free, they would sell even more bandwidth.
Unfortunately they don't seem to realise that the more cheap access they provide at all hours for users, they more the users will demand bandwidth from Local websites, the more profitable local websites will become and the more bandwidth Telkom will sell and the more profit Telkom will make.
