The president has declared 3 August 2016 a public holiday.

Categories of municipalities

There are currently three kinds of municipalities:
  • metropolitan municipalities which are big cities
  • local municipalities which are towns and their surrounding rural areas
  • district municipalities which coordinate a number of local municipalities in a region

The largest metropolitan areas are governed by metropolitan municipalities, while the rest of the country is divided into district municipalities, each of which consists of several local municipalities.

South Africa’s local government is currently made up of eight metropolitan municipalities, 44 district municipalities, and 207 local municipalities.

The eight metropolitan municipalities are:
  • Buffalo City (East London)
  • City of Cape Town
  • City of Johannesburg
  • City of Tshwane (Pretoria)
  • Ekurhuleni (East Rand)
  • Ethekwini (Durban)
  • Mangaung (Bloemfontein)
  • Nelson Mandela Bay (Port Elizabeth)

Where do I vote?

If you are still unsure or a first time voter in a new area, then go to: https://www.elections.org.za/content/For-voters/My-voter-registration-details/

Input your ID number and the security code.

The next screen will confirm your registration and also indicate which voting station you need to visit.

If you click on "voting station map" it will show you the exact site. The map also show the ward boundary.

Because most South Africans do not have access to the internet.

Same problem exists. Will be great in urban and peri-urban areas but a problem in rural areas and a huge problem in deep rural areas.

Also remember that this is a municipal election, where you have to reside in the area where you vote. In a national election it is not that critical...

Should still be an option.

I don't think that's the reason though. They probably still view it as open to being compromised...
 
forgot it was a holiday. can never have too many of those here apparently.

Frikken clown ...... could have made it the 5th so I could have a long weekend.

I think he picks Wednesdays because 1. Its wacky Wednesday at Steers and 2. So he can skip Thursday and Friday and do what he normally does when he isnt being a clown .... viz fekoli.

I think it's a rule that it can't follow or precede a weekend so people don't go on holiday instead of vote.
