Hi All,

I am looking for the cheapest Per/GB local only bandwidth provider running on the SAIX backbone. Not IS. And the 30GB free that I get from Telkom is just not cutting it. LOL.

Any advise or help will be greatly appreciated.

they should hang people wanting to support this "cheaper local only" crap. :-)

Well ... if it;s on IS, then how can they claim that:

I have been using this service for a long time.

Yeah but on the same page:

Excluded from the ADSL Local Only service:
1.) SMTP Servers - Customers will not be able to relay e-mail via any SAIX SMTP server.
2.) Cache Servers - Customers will not be able to use any SAIX Cache (Proxy) servers.

Web AFrica will have new system uo soon, right now the prices are R70 for 10Gb and R130 for 30Gbs, Much cheapers then Axies and The ptice will probably come down soon

2.) Cache Servers - Customers will not be able to use any SAIX Cache (Proxy) servers.
Well were you expecting to use a SAIX proxy server with local-only saix bandwidth? That would mean you'd be able to access international through those proxies - I doubt TelkomInternet would be too pleased with that?

You can't use SAIX cache proxies even if you use Telkom's local cause its local and not international.

R10 is SAIX local bandwidth. The international is Semi Shaped Bandwidth by IS.

Ok, lets understand that this is just to get the best for not only my money but also all of our money.

And yes it is to use with news servers such as newshost.

And quite frankly, don't you people think that we, as in South Africans get truly shafted when it comes to Broadband.
Just think about it, if we have the speed to stream live media or download from iTunes than we get shafted because we don’t have enough bandwidth and we get capped. And if we have uncapped accounts we get limited to certain hours of the day or we get throttled or we are faced with the so-called rolling threshold.

It is time that these provides look at the word uncapped in its true meaning and definition. Oh another one would be" fair usage". I am sure that you have all heard of these.

So until we are provided with "UNCAPPED" ADSL news servers are the answer and for that I/We require cheap local bandwidth.

Because FTP/Mirror and DNS isn't network specific.

I can use Hetzner DNS servers and UCT's local FTP/Mirror on any network I want just by connecting to it via my internet connection (and setting my DNS servers myself)

Can you connect to SAIX's news server from your Axxess local only connection?

Well, until Web Africa has their new system in place, they too resell Local IS gigs... ;)

I'm using the prepaid OpenWeb's 10GB Local-only via IS, which is only R70 thus R7/GB. Or you could go for the 30GB package for R131. It might be shaped, but its still pretty fast during office hours. See http://www.openweb.co.za/local_adsl.php

I'm currently using it in combination with the Axxess Uncapped Express, since office hours on the uncapped express is just too slow :(

Why would they run all their bandwidth through IS, but local only (which IS excels at) through SAIX?

Go check the IP range...

Axxess Local

Go to features and then look at what is says under "Network"

The reason I refer SAIX bandwidth is the SAIX news server gives you better speeds on uncached content, where the IS news server is horrible with uncached.

I called their centre the other day, spoke to a techie who told me that in order to connect to newservers etc, you use IS. Phone them again if you'd like.
