Does anyone know of a local only datacentre, or atleast a datacentre that bills local traffic differently to international traffic ?

Nope, they all bill on traffic regardless of where it's coming from of going to.

If you're trying to do what I think you're trying to do then hosting on your ADSL line with a local only account would be the only way to do it.

Unfortunately no isps offer this yet, as I'm also in need of cheap local only bandwidth. I'm sure they could do it if they put their minds to it, but alas no one wants to take the plunge (or innovative thinking for that matter) :P

But for now, try and support the current push for making local bandwidth cheaper:

I think MTN Network Solutions separates local and international bandwidth and can bill you separately on both. They have a few data centers.

Hi Coza,

This would easily be achievable - what you would need to get a dedicated server or VPS from a local datacenter and then simply drop all international IPs.

When I look at different bandwidth options from quite a popular local provider Hetzner, I see separate bandwidth options:

Sure, some traffic gets used for rejecting the packets, but that would be minimal.

Hi ravenserves,

I can't see anywhere where hetzner charges different rates for local bandwidth on that link ?

Or am i not understanding you correctly .... ?

My hosted services use only local traffic, and since local traffic is cheaper than international traffic, i was looking for a way to cut costs.

Hi Coza,

I didn't read their page correctly it seems. I have always known they charge differently for their shared plans:

http://www.hetzner.co.za/index.php/hosting/product-matrix/web-hosting-comparison-matrix/

and I just glanced over their dedicated offerings and saw South Africa Vs Germany and assumed they have the same kind of offering.

I understand what you mean now, but you will not get it any cheaper. I thought you were asking about a site which would be limited to local visitors and not waste bandwidth on international visitors.

Unfortunately no datacenter will give you cheaper rates for that ;)
