I know there is a local torrents setup ( well at least one ), and a number of DC++ hubs ...

I was wondering if they are that popular and what was the most popular ...

Well - as wikipedia considers usenet as p2p I'd like to give that as my final answer. IS' News server is local and abundant with content.
