Hi all

I am busy developing a local e-commerce site using Magento, but it is hellishly slow....
I have heard that Magento is not the quickest shopping cart out there, but there must be a way to speed it up.

One mention is through the use of a CDN, but I am not sure if this will help if the site is hosted locally and will only be serving locals?

Any bright thoughts out there?

Use gtmetrix.com to see what needs optimizing on your site.

If your traffic is local only then the CDN will only make it slower Because it will connect to the nearest POP which 95% of the time is in the UK.

Rather looking at caching your site.

Using a CDN will do nothing to improve the speed of Magento. The problem is the actual application itself, not the delivery of assets to your browser. Are you hosting it using shared hosting, or are you planning on hosting it on your own server?

Hi all

Thanks for all the responses.

So i went to GTmetrix.com man my site was k@k. But they just so happen to have a free plugin for magento called GTSpeed. installed and enabled everything and WOW, what a difference, went from 64% to 90%.

The CDN comments make sense, I have signed up for AWS Cloud Front demo to see what happens, just out of interest.

I am hosted at Afrihost on a shared server atm. Need the site to generate some Moola to upgrade. Not sure if moving to Hetzner would improve anything.

When you grow out of the shared hosting environment move to host1plus.com they have really cheap VPS'S

That's most likely your issue.
Look at getting a cheap VPS solution rather, in most cases the price difference between shared hosting and a cheap VPS isn't really money for the performance gains you will get.
