Hi,

I find this incredibly difficult to master and I'm just wondering how others tackle this.

I want to start selling a product on a e commerce website, the supplier of this particular product is in JHB and I'm in CPT and clients potentially all across South Africa.

How would one go about running such a business from a logistical point of view.

The product is in a box 25cm wide 15cm high 25 long

25x25x15 and weighs less than 1Kg

Call the couriers, discuss the logistics, deliveries, packaging... Get quotes, do comparisons, get in bed with more than one courier, etc. etc. etc. Source the logistics, simple.

Originally I used FedEx and DHL simply because I assumed companies of their size won't lose my order like what happened before.

However these courier services are quite expensive in a not so very big profit margin game.

So I was just wondering how existing folk who runs a e commerce website does it.

Um, you get companies that are dedicated to handling all of that for you ... the name of this service just escapes me now.

You get them the product, they ship it out and handle everything else. There are even a few big ones in SA, that handle the online retailers.

If you got the cash you buy your own, as takealot uses Mr delivery drivers,
I even had an idea to approach uber drivers to get them to do it...

You could try fastway or courier Guy,
They both might be able to help out...

Outherwise fdx or Dhl it is....

Thanks guys for the names, I'll send then all a mail now and get quotes

Use postnet to postnet R99 for up to 5kgs, the catch is it must be sent to and from a postnet

Hey zipa, yes I've looked at Postnet, but unfortunately they don't offer what I need.

Basically I'm in CPT I have a particular product that is only available from a warehouse in JHB I want to sell it across Sa

Contact courier entities like Dawn Wing etc. They specialise in express courier and logistic services, incl. packaging. There are many others in SA.
