I own one myself;
They are larger than the normal average keyboard, but who cares anyways... i've seen how many folks yelling blue murder on the size of the keyboard, when no one can vomment on they usability of the 18 x 3 extra keys to your disposal; not to mention the lcd display that can almost display anything to your hearts desires*
Yes.. note the *.
There is one catch to this tho... the support to the lcd addons is limited at present, and not much supported by default, so unless you get hold of other folks that created addons, you will be stuck with a watch and a cpu monitor and i think the countdown timer aswell. Logitech did however release the SDK to the lcd, so if you know programming, welcome welcome!
There is one other small downside to the keyboard.. it seemed to me that within the 1st one or 2 months some keys do lose their black coating a little bit. my n, m, c and . did lose a hint of black and is showing extra blue from the backlight, but its only visible if you are looking for it. Since appearing, it has not progressed further, and im more than happy with my keyboard coming on to a year of owning it.
I you really want a keyboard as such, go for it, but dont go for it for show and tell; go for it if you really think its going to be useful to you. I dont have time in games really to use my 54 extra keys; especially whilst in combat; BUT i do find them MOST useful when programming, or doing repeatitive tasks. Press one key and it can type paragraphs for me, or do long unix commands, or even write functions. the list go on as long as your mind is open.
Oh, also note.. theres NO sleep, powerdown or whatever those most utterly useless keys are on other keyboards, so no more windows key -> sleep aswell.
DAE_JA_VOO: 800 bucks for this keyboard is no ripoff. Remember, this is not your normal oem keyboard, neither just a multimedia or office keyboard. It does not have 158 keys on the keyboard itself, and 8 more at the lcd, +1 volume control, and a toggle switch for nothing. If this keyboard was 1k, id still run to buy it. Cant expect to pay R200 for it. It would be a shame if this keyboard would go sub R600.
Ask yourself this question; What item(s) on your computer do
you use the most. Your Screen, mouse and keyboard. The rest means nothing, they just give you speed. Isnt it then so that those items should be your most comfortable items? If you feel that this keyboard will make you more productive/better at what you do, bearing in mind that your workspace WILL be less... at least 5x5 cm less than it is now.
An alternative (less expensive*) but also nifty keyboard, is the Z-board.
I cant and wont talk about it, since i dont know anything from it, except form readings on the net, so i might be biased if i do comment.
* less expensive if you dont buy every overlay there is for the keyboard ;p
This reply is off topic to the thread, but this was kind of the right place to put a post as such. Id hate someone to buy the keyboard because it looks 1337 with the lcd and the extra keys and they whole blue color to it, but dont really want such a keyboard that costs more than any other standalone keyboard (well, what i have noticed) around.
To the topic:
Kalahari.net: R838.95 (ex delivery)
http://www.kalahari.net/HOME/product.asp?toolbar=none&sku=29466470&format=detail
a Place that also stock it that I know of; pcgameworld (not my most favorite of shops, but who cares about customer service in this country. not like anyone has it, or if we hang out with them). Last I know of, they retailed at somewhere between 800 and 900 (sorry, my mind is leaving me.. its almost time to work again)
Another tactic, is to ask logitech who their distributors is in ZA. I went to their site on their live help somewhere there.. they gave me a number or two.
Ill try to see if my supplier can get me one to send to you, but im sure supersunbird will be beter at the price department
Peace out!
