I bought the Harmony One for R1399 from Takealot, received it yesterday...

According to some of the sites I checked the 900 doesn't support macro commands, I'm not sure if they referring to activities, but other than the RF the One is superior to the 900..

No, I also have a One ... definitely not superior to the 900 in any way ...

Logitech moved all macros to activities ... for the One, 1100 and 900 ...

The 900 is a "One" plus RF and the 4 coloured buttons that came with BluRay as hard buttons (the One has those on the touch screen if you set it up that way).

EDIT: Sorry, seems Logitech brought in the macro change after the One was released, so yes, inside activities, the One can still have a button programmed to send a sequence of IR commands, where the 900 can only do sequences when selecting an activity. That said, they probably made a mistake on the price as the One is a $200 remote and the 900 is a $350 remote. Hope they'll honor it.

I don't use sequences other than off the Activity buttons, but it does freak me out when I select an activity and one or two commands are missed because the damn "One" was not pointed towards the right component at the right time.

So, iceman23, keep in mind what mh348 said ... a lot of people who "upgraded" from One to 900 are pissed off about the lack of macros ... At R904 I'm pretty sure I'm gonna enjoy my 900 on my main setup and move the One to the lounge.

thanks. also purchased it when i posted and so hope they honour it. I have read about the macro issue but at 50% the normal price I dont mind. Even the cheapest on Amazon is $240. The cheapest harmony one on Amazon is $140.

cnet says:

The bottom line: The Logitech Harmony 900 is, hands down, the best universal remote control we've ever tested.

Sounds like a few people got past the no macro problem on the 900 by using the "RAW learning" function to setup sequences, ie. put it into learn mode and then send the multiple commands to it from the original remotes.

I'm thinking (if I ever need it), I'll setup the sequence on my "One" and then use the learn function to transfer that sequence onto the 900 as one command.

What exactly is the macro/sequences used for? As long as the 900 can do normal activities it would work fine for me.. I would of saved R500 and still got the added benefit of RF.

Yeah, like I said, I don't even use it on my "One". Examples I've seen are:

4 x FastForward, with delays inbetween ... used to skip through ad breaks ??
Menu, Down, Down, Enter ... guys using it in their TV's TEXT mode to get to a frequently used category, etc.
etc.

For DSTv channel selection, ie. 1-7-0 to go to channel 170 ... guess what, that at least is still available on the 900 ... woohoo!

I honestly can't even think of a use for it at the moment.

I suppose it would also cover complex commands like for example turning on your DVD player, setting your surround sound receiver to the correct input and audio mode, switch your tv to the correct input, etc. at the press of a single button.

Yes, but that would then be covered under the "Activity" function ... available on both models.

Aha, fair enough then, I suppose. Just ordered the 900 as well and I haven't really played around with the higher-end Harmony remotes for extended periods of time.

Guys, I'm pretty convinced that the price is wrong, so just an idea ... tell me what you think, though. I've oredered lots of stuff from Takealot (Take2) and they're a great company. I think I should bring it to their attention that they are selling this thing for a lot less than Pinnacle's dealer price. I think they will honor the price as long as they have not received too many orders. If we just leave it, they might not be able to honor it for everybody.

nah price has come down other sites selling it even cheaper - i found one for 885.....

Looks like you right, I also just checked Pinnacle's Pricelist and it's alot less... I placed an order for 2 units but looks like they out of stock as my order status shows an eta for 26 Jan 2012...

They'll probably reverse the order once they pickup the mistake :(

damn. should have got it from them if I knew. Now I have to wait till Jan 25th.
