Logitech Mouse Pairing

I have one of those cheap wireless Logitech combo keyboard & mouse sets ... but I've just lost the mouse .

If I pop into the store tomorrow and buy a new mouse, can I still use my existing receiver instead ?

No, I believe they're married in firmware from the factory.

The fancier Logitech equipment can be paired to their unifying receiver.

The ones with a red logo can be paired using unifying receiver.

I don't completely agree. I have done this before. Results are not consistent, though.
