Hi I was looking at these 2 speaker systems and just want to know if the Z2300's are worth the extra money over the x540's

X540's Technical Specifications

o Total RMS power: 70 watts RMS
Satellites: 45 watts RMS (2 x 7.4W front, 15.4W centre, 2 x 7.4W rear)
Subwoofer: 25 watts RMS
o Total peak power: 140 watts
o Frequency response: 40 Hz - 20 kHz

Z2300's
Technical Specifications

o Total RMS power: 200 watts RMS
Satellites: 80 watts RMS (40 watts x 2)
Subwoofer: 120 watts RMS
o Total peak power: 400 watts
o Frequency response: 35 Hz–20 kHz
o Signal-to-noise ratio @ 1 kHz: >100 dB
o Amplifier: Ultra-linear, high-capacity analog

I am actually combining both systems on my PC at this moment. The Z2300 has ALOT of power! It has a lot of bottom end performance with great sound control. Its way better than the X540 as it obviously has WAY more power than the X540.

Z2300 FTW.

What price you getting them for ... I am looking for another set for my son's PC.

They're not nearly in the same price range though, why are you looking at those two?

There might even be something better for the price of the Z2300's, but i haven't looked at speakers in a while.

yeah man, z2300 definitely owns the x540's. i wouldnt even buy the x540's if they were R100. hated them! they sounded as if their sound waves were like stairs. very jagged and rough and the its range sucks. also, the x540's bass doesnt even compare to the z2300 and the midrange just sounds like crap.
i really hated my x540's.

altec lansing 4021. around R1000.
only problem is that the z2300 is rated at 200rms and the altec's are 46rms.
i've gotten rid of my z2300 and bought the altecs and im very very happy with the quality but a bit bummed at the lack of power..

Well that is a lot cheaper, but I'd definitely prefer quality over power.

I'm sure the Altecs can be pushed about as loud as you'd need them for normal use. A lack of bass might be a problem, depending on what you're using them for.

I have the MX5021, which was around the same price as the Z2300 and is rated at 90RMS, too bad they don't seem to be around in SA anymore.

ya, i wanted to get the 5021's but i couldnt get hold of them anywhere.
for normal use, the fx4021's are great, especially with the loudness and sfx engaged. really awesome. i used my home theater for entertaining people and for parties etc, so i dont need powerful speakers
