Good Day Fellow Happy People.

So I unpacked and set up z5500 last night.

Here is the setup at current.

Xbox 360 = hdmi = ps42c450

ps42c450 = digital optical cable = z5500

dstv sd :( = rca = ps42c450

HTPC (Acer Aspire 5920G Laptop) = hdmi = ps42c450

Am i getting the most out of my system using this setting? Or is there a better way to connect its all to the sound to receive the best quality from it?

Optical cable is the best connection option you have. The problem I have found with using them for home entertainment is the limited amount of inputs. For instance I need to bring optical in from a PS3 as well as a media player, so you end up having to swap cables or purchasing a splitter.

Take a coaxial cable for the DSTV for 5.1

so morkhans, doesnt your tv have an optical out?

are you saying it would be better to connect the device straight to the z5500 instead of going device => tv => z5500?

Not a lot of TV's have optical out, but take a look and confirm it is just a pass through, so it takes the sound from the device and passes it through

My projector does not have optical out. If running your sources into the TV as a central receiver and then a single output to the Z5500 is working for you, then stick with it.
