In 2020 I changed from Buzybuy (who used to be really good but stopped responding to tickets) to RSAweb

The transition when Buzybuy stopped until RSAweb began took 22 days. I could never get hold of them during this period to find out what was going on. They also supplied a 10-year old router which did not work properly, so I had to buy my own

Vumatel told me the change could have been done immediately, but RSAweb did not submit any type of request

Now I want to use CoolIdeas on account of good reports on this forum

CI tell me they can do nothing until confirmation is received that the line has been released.

Is it always like this? Long delays

The new ISP has a dependency on the old one releasing the line. Of course the old ISP is in no rush to do that as they are losing a customer.
There really should be some regulation around that to force them to do line releases within a day or two.

It shouldn't take that long but, specifically in some of the legacy Vumatel areas they have issues with address and location mapping.

So they find this out once they try release your line, but if you've gone through this already it should be relatively seamless.

Once the previous ISP confirms cancellation then you should get a line release date, we then apply from there.

CI how long would one be out of service ie from cancellation to new ISP?
im needing move from one to possibly CI but working from home etc am worried about being offline for long periood

This all depends on the FNO and the process to follow. In most cases, it's relatively seamless.

apologies PB , whats a FNO
im currently with Home choice but looking to move

Fibre Network Operator, basically who the underlying fibre provider is. The largest in the country being Openserve and Vumatel for instance.

im joined with Vumatel and took up home connect but i see they arent as competitive as other ISPs
looking for something along the lines of 40/20 or similar as currently on 50/50
but also the shortest time to switch from one to another ISP

how long is a piece of string...

when i moved from afrihost to mind the Speed, line was released at midnight, next morning i was up and running

when i moved from mind the speed to CI, it took 3 weeks(keep in mind MTS released my line early and was even confirmed here by CI rep), and mainly because CI has multiple people handling any query of yours and arthur doesnt know martha at CI, so you go around in circles explaining to them the same thing over and over until someone with brains actually helps you.

if you worried about being offline for a long period, i suggest get a backup connection(rain or someone) that way you'll have connectivity until your line is sorted, otherwise plan to be without internet for a while

Your line move was still based on delays from Vumatel, not our internal process or staff.
