Long Exposures

mmm, thanks... and the head? reason I am asking is cause dad is looking for tripods, and was very very highly impressed with your pics... :)

Hey all. New to the forum. Been toying around with a D3000 for about a year now, think im ready to move up to maybe a D7000. Anyway here is a shot I took some time ago, I have an obsession with light painting :)

It's not a requirement.
I'm not sure how you can avoid using a slr. Looking at the P&Ss around me now I can see that the smallest aperture is still relatively large (f/7.7 in the case of my more advanced P&S the P6000), shutter speed is limited to a max of 8", and there's no way to attach a ND filter assuming they even make them for P&Ss. Rarely do you get the facility to use a remote trigger even if you do have one with Bulb mode.

So how would you suggest circumventing these deficiencies?

Ok, fair enough. I should have thought about that myself. :)

I'd like to get my hands on one to augment my slrs but they're still lacking in too many areas to replace them. :)

What areas do they lack in besides the autofocus speed & the obvious variety of lenses? I'm very keen on one but will wait a bit, the Panasonic GH2 looks really sweet and has good speed as well but uses the smaller 4/3rd sensor on the downside.

For me it's all about the frame rate, AF speed and having an optical eyepiece. That and I've got a small fortune invested in glass and accessories.
