Ok so my customer had an e220 - which on the weekend had a nice fall and went cheers.

Obtained black mc950d from IC since they didn't have stock of the e172.

Must say - bit dissapointed.

Uninstalled the old VMC on customer's laptop and fired up the 2008 9.3 version of vmc.

The trouble - this device takes FOREVER to initialize...

plug in - red light - wait (5s)
windows sound - wait (+-3s)
45 -60 second wait - then if you are lucky and VMC pops up - or 90% of the time you have to start VMC manually.

Only then does it start and shows signal strength/ otherwise if you are a bit quick for VMC its stuck at detecting....

Any suggestions?

I've tried ginggs's mdmtool - (with disabling vmc from startup to avoid software conflicts to the port) - but it just doesn't pick up the hardware.'

don't worry - got fed up , took it back to I.C for a swop , exactly the same problem - tried on their top of the range acer notebook model - same problem

swopped it for e220 (no stock on anything else) - aaaaah :)

That's weird, MDMA definitely worked with the MC950D at one point, but glad you got it swapped for something else, I don't like those Novatels.
You should push them to give you an E172 when they get stock though.

Mine also completely stopped working yesterday. Previously, it always took about 5 minutes to connect to the network, but otherwise was fine.
