Hi all

Looking for recommendations on a WAN router that will last a long while.

I've had 2 TP links, cheap and expensive, and an Edimax.

After a couple of months the WiFi starts giving issues like completely dropping, or varied speeds until restarting it

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I'm having the same issue. I've got a TP-Link Archer C7 and it's been fine for about 4 months.
Now it's starting to randomly drop the wifi signal on 5Ghz.
Really annoying, considering it's supposed to be one of their better models.
Any recommendations on a reliable WAN AC router are welcome.

My philosophy changed a lot over the years. In the beginning i would go for the best Wi-fi router I could get. After a few incidents with lightning I've changed. I get a cheap router/ modem, a decent switch and a great WiFi AP.

Change the modem if it breaks but the rest of the network stays stable.

The Ubiquity AP's are brilliant. I'd just disable WiFi on the modem (almost can't get ones without WiFi and do all that via the UniFi. Modems I get the cheap one and buy 2 at a time.

Switches you can get decent 1Gb 8 ports for fairly cheap ...

Refer to my post above..

I went to a client a few weeks back, their UniFi AP AC Lite's were up and running for 147 days without fail and it would've continued to do so had I not done a firmware upgrade on it.

DrayTek - Robust Networking Solutions

We still get calls from users in Gauteng to replace their DrayTek Vigor2820 series after they've gotten struck by lightning.

It's at that point that we have to break it to them that since the Vigor2820 series has long gone end of life and theirs is likely about 10 years old, we'll need to offer one of the newer models. :D

If you're keen to try out DrayTek's various popular models,
like the Vigor2860ac, or
the Vigor2925ac, or
one of the AP's like the VigorAP 910C, just give us a shout.

Asus all the way for me. Bought a DSL-AC68U September last year & still using it when I switched to fixed wireless earlier this month :D

This. I have the same setup at my home.

Another +1 for Unifi. The uptime on my AC Lite was 92 days the other day until I had to update the firmware, it's rock solid.
