You asked about the SKY package that I pay for. Well, I pay approximately £80 per month and what do I get?
SKY television which includes sport, movies, documentaries, news, Movies4Men, Comedy Central, Eden, etc. I have unlimited Broadband at around 8Mb, unlimited phone calls but mobile phones are extra, of course. I do not pay line rental to BT as it is all inclusive with my SKY package.
I purchased a SKY ‘On Demand’ box which plugs into the SKY+ box and the price was a once-only payment of £22. For this there are about a hundred movies, some readily available and others downloadable. It gives a ‘Catchup’ facility with normal television programmes and there are iPlayers for BBC, ITV, SKY1, 4oD, Demand 5, SKY Movies, SKY Sports, National Geographic, History, ci. Programmes that have been deleted can be recovered or permanently deleted, and it is possible to export items to be burnt to DVD on another machine. And let’s not forget that there is a huge range of radio programmes, too.
There is a red button facility which has a variety of functions with different programmes. During the Olympics I was able to choose the sport that interested me. At the weekend a rugby match is shown on S4C, the Welsh channel, and the red button allows me to have an English commentary. Conversely, when there is a match with an English commentary, Welsh viewers may choose a Welsh one. When the World Snooker Championship is staged it is possible to choose between the two matches televised, or possibly, another sport altogether. Incidentally, when a programme session of this snooker comes to an end on television, pressing the red button allows one to carry on viewing —for as long as it takes. During the Heineken Cup matches I was able to choose the game I wanted to see rather than the scheduled one on TV.
There may be other things I’ve forgotten to mention (there probably are!), but I hope this gives some help.
