So while cleaning out the last remains of junk from my new business premises I found this. I asked the previous tenant if he knew what it was and he just shrugged his shoulders and said its been there since he took the building a few years ago.

It was caked with crap. From what I can google its a Gsm/Isdn gateway. It seems fine except for a broken areal, which I'm sure I can replace if necessary.

Does anyone have any experience with these? Would I be able to use this as a GSM gateway for my Elastix pbx? I cant seem to find any reference to this specific model anywhere online including the manufacturer website.

What I really need to know is what voltage it runs off of so that I can plug the thing in and see if it works.

Why bother with a premicell when you could probably do better price wise going pure VoIP, or simply by adding cell saver to your Telkom account?

pure voip is on my list, but the adsl at my current location is just not going to do the job.

Ive never heard of Cell saver? I'll have a google.

There are some affordable options that make use of diginet. Drop me a PM for details if you like.

Telkom don't make much effort to advertise it, but it's a nice service: http://smme.telkom.co.za/voice-services/calling-plans/cellsaver/

We spend just over a grand a month on mobile calls, so the cellsaver doesnt help us there and I think that diginet is probably for higher volume too, however a cell c sim card sure would make a difference :p.

that is a gsm router (a good possibility it was a definity telecoms one they were big into these devices back in the day) that was used on a pabx that had no spare ports it has a line scanner built in - it scans digits that are being passed over pstn, if it finds a match it passes the call to gsm or pstn...the reason for ptt and pbx on krone, to the right is two fxs ports that you can connect analog phone to and make calls, the rj45 port at the top is for programming and propitiatory.

the reason for the two gsm modules was load balancing and to make on-network calls - one mtn one vodacom sim.

i think they run on 24v i still have a couple of them in storage and will check (power input just above earth on krone) when you switch it on led's should run in sequence and you should hear a couple of clicks, i might still have the programming utility and cable pin-out (rj45 to serial) somewhere

if you have interface card with pstn lines connected to asterisk you could use it as gateway as the router needs line voltage to detect on and of hook as well as line state.

I would hang on to it, the gsm market is waking up again with the unlimited plans

Awesome! I would appreciate it if you could confirm the power supply voltage for me. one I know it works could I chat to you again about getting the utility? I can make my own cable if you send me the pin layout.
