The op did say >2 liters and preferably 3.
Question. Why more than 2 litres? Why 3 door?
4x4 for grip on road, or off-road driving?

Strangely enough google images shows quite a few 2 or 3 door 4x4's yet local dealer site only seem to show images and specs for 4 door models ?
Are they not as easily available locally or what ?
Anything less than 3litre I fear may be under-powered. Mainly on-road.
Maybe an Amarok? Remember, size doesn't equal power. The 2.0 in the Amarok is much stronger than the 3.0 in the Fortuner for example.
In any turbo motor you can up the boost and make dramatically more torque and power, but you end up having to strengthen internals and could reduce longevity while tightening tolerances, requiring finer control.
Look at the popular Golf GTI. There is a golf 400 in the pipeline which produces around double the power with the same motor, albeit heavily modified, with increased boost and strengthened internals. And the guys into modifying and racing do the same.
I would guess the low boost 3L motors are less prone to failure than the higher stress 2L motors. The 3L motors are more suited to workhorse bakkies which quickly clock up 100s of thousands of hard kilometers, pulling full loads, consuming low grade fuel and being driven by non owners unsympathetically. While the 2L variants are more lifestyle vehicles that never see a load bin filled to capacity, but rather the occasional dirt road and mountain bike in the back.
