Looking for a 24 Inch LCD

That's about the going rate for them these days. Doesn't look a baaaad monitor on paper.

What about the Samsung 2494HS?

They are both 23.6' not 24'!

They're "cheap" because they're becoming the more prefered size and aspect ratio of monitor for computers now... so economies of scale and all that...

What is 16:10 i mean what is it used for?

It's aspect ratio.

16:9 1920 x 1080
16:10 1920 x 1200

That's the difference with 1920 width. It's just aspect ratio (# pixels wide / # pixels high)

16:9 is common HD movie aspect ratio. If you have a 16:9 movie you'll get no black bars.

16:10 is "taller", an extra 120 lines. Very useful on a monitor if you use it for work. A 120 lines actually makes a big difference. If that's not you and prefer it for movies then just get the 16:9.

You can get more 16:9 panels out of a given wafer size then 16:10. That's why they're cheaper.

And yes. Depending on what you do 16:10 can be better.

I prefer 16:10 myself.

I agree, those 120 extra lines make a huge difference; get a 16:10 monitor, unless you game a lot.

I think prices are coming down to make space for LED monitors at the top end. I want to replace my 24" with 2x24", but I'm waiting for LED backlights to become more common.

I was looking for the same and settled on the samsung 2494 to be used as a bedrooom TV. Very nice monitor except that it requires vesa wall mounting standard 100x200 which sucks.

Ouch!

Never use a LCD as a TV in South Africa, unless you have it constantly on the Mnet HD channel or watching blu-rays. :wtf:

HD plasma is the only one that looks great with both.

just waiting for all the January specials to kick in. Today I got a 799 pair of Columbia's for 199.....yeah its shoes, but the online specials should start soon to get all the older stock out and new stuff in, stimulate the Jan economy a bit since no one has money in Jan. (I save a few rand for Jan specials:) I really need a decent gigabit router, another 1.5TB drive and a 24+" lcd.
