I am looking for a 500Gig IDE drive to buy, or to swop with a new 500G SATA. Maybe someone here has one they need to get rid of.

You can still buy them from Matrix. They are the last of the line of the IDE drives.

You could always get a SATA controller card which might be to costly.
Another option is to get a SATA to PATA adapter for less than R100 which is probably a better option if you move the drive to a newer pc later.

I know http://www.ncst.co.za/ has always been a good place to find things like this.

Unfortunately I only have SATA drives.

What drive do you have, full Make & Model #? Maybe I or someone else will buy it off you.

Yes, right! Matrix also has those SATA to IDE converter cards for R100. If you have the space you can plug it into your motherboard and just use a SATA drive.

That is probably the best thing to do. This way you still have a SATA drive when you move to a newer PC.

This drive is not for a pc(its for my DSTV PVR) and has to be an IDE. The new IDE's are just a little to expensive, and that is why i am trying to get a second hand one.

Mmmmm.... I wonder if a SATA with an ide converter would work?

those converters are around 5 cm square and sit straight out of the IDE port. Will be a tight squeeze.
