Wife keeps sending our home lte into oob.

Have 2 wifi networks we connect to.
One is uncapped etc (work) other is vodacom (nothing else works).
We can't use 3g/lte inside the house and the only internet connection we can get in our house is Vodacom LTE.
I can't soft cap the device as I often need an internet connection so end up just buying more and more data bundles or getting bit by OOB shark.
I have considered just buying another month by month contract then soft capping the thing but half the time I won't use the data in the 30 days vodacom give you to use it now days (they no longer do the "till end of the following month" thing. It likely won't save me any money if I do this then soft cap, all I would get out of it is peace of mind.
The other issue I have with that is I have two data bundle options when I *111# one costs R149 for 2GB and the other costs R249 for 2GB. Vodacom will not let me use the R149 for 2GB option on a month to month basis as my contract price with the 2GB was a "special" and so is the R149 option and you can not have two specials on the same sim card or something.

I do get vodacom's warning sms's sent to my phone instead of the router but they are often sent hours after the cap has been reached so I can end up paying R1024 for a gig (my oob rate is R1 a meg).

Anyway, any suggestions or advice?

I would like her to be aware of how much data she is using on the lte router as well as on her data bundle (that also goes all oob every now and then).

I had a similar issue at home with my wife always going over the WiFi limit at home (Vodacom) and then getting surprises later . What I did was get rid of the router and I used another android device (My wife's old S4 Mini). I then basically used this S4 Mini as the WiFi Hotspot at home the whole time and for nothing else .

This I found worked great as I could set the data limiter on the phone way before the bundle was up as well as a warning and we have had no OOB surprises since then . Might not be ideal as it involves needing a spare android device to use as the Wi Fi Hotspot , but it has worked like a charm for us .

Not sure about other manufacturers, but my Sony has a 3G data limit function setting (Settings -> Data Usage). And then regarding your home LTE router, it should have a capping function per user on the Wi-Fi network based on the MAC address table. Not sure if that would solve your problem.

I'm also keen on this idea.

I use vodacom when I'm out and ADSL wi-fi indoors. I want to keep closer track on the cellphone data because it seems to disappear unexpectedly.

I use the router cause no android phone I have ever had gives you reasonable 3g/4g signal in the area (unless you stand outside exactly 3 steps to the left of the jacaranda tree on one leg while holding the phone at arms length pointing exactly to N30E and at an angle of 32.5' while facing S50W).

That sucks , if it is a Vodacom Data Contract can't you get them to convert it to a Top Up Data Contract (Thats what I did as well) that way at least once your bundle has been used up you can't be hit with the OOB data charges as you then need to load airtime onto the sim first and then convert it to a data bundle .

This way at very least you can't be hit with the surprise OOB charges come end of the month . It's more of a mission granted (having to load air time and convert it ),but you do then have more control . Just a thought .

So are you saying that you have two wifi networks and one is a failover ? (vodacom), and it keeps failing over to the voda and killing your cap ?

Just block all your wifes devices from the failover ?
