Hello everybody, hope you are well. Could you advise me as which GPU I can go for? I have a budget of around R1500 and mostly play racing games and fps (when they don't make me nauseuos). I stay in the Transkei so I need something I can use for possibly the next few years. Thanks

Hi there saw this: GRAPHICS CARD - GIGABYTE nVidia
GeForce GT640 OC- 2048MB DDR3, 128-
Bit Memory Bus, PCI Express 3.0, 1x D-
SUB, 2x DVI-D, 1x HDMI, HDCP
Compliant, DirectX 11, OpenGL, nVidia
CUDA & PhysX Technology, , NVIDIA 3D
Vision being offered by a shop in East London. How would it compare to the card you mentioned ? Btw they're selling it for R1399.99.

It wouldn't really compare although the price is reasonable. A 7770 would be a better bet. But still see if you can't plump out a bit more for the 260x.

The GT640 is a terrible card for gaming. 260X and HD7770 is your best bet.

The R7 265 (which is probably going to be the best card under the R1800 range in RSA) will only be coming to SA hopefully by next month.

The Radeon R7 265X and the GeForce 750TI are both on the verge of the release. I say wait until next month and then make a decision. The R7 265X is basically a HD7850 in a smaller package but it will be much more future proof.

Personally, I game on a Gainward GeForce 550ti and I'm able to get games running at 1080p but on normal settings. Some games like BF3 and Dirt 3 I can max out the graphics.

Agree,

However the R7 265 price point @ $150 looks reasonable, expect it here to be between R1800-R2500 depending on model, although shipping here in numbers may also be 3 months later than the release date.

Wait for the GTX 750ti to land here...

Nvidia has just taken the wraps off the $149 (£115) GTX 750 Ti and $119 (£90) GTX 750 graphics cards based on its new Maxwell architecture. Both cards are available to purchase now.

The company is claiming Maxwell has twice the performance per watt of Kepler, and--in the case of the GTX 750 Ti--performance on par with a GTX 480, but with a power consumption of just 60 watts.

The GTX750 prices just came up. R2000 in RSA, and with its minimal performance gain, it is absolutely not worth it! Radeon still dominates the market in those price ranges.
