I'm not overly familiar with this segment of the market. Is there anything that meets the criteria:

- 6" or larger screen
- good battery life
- under R3k
- reasonable local warranty/support

I bought one of these for my mom:

Works like a charm for her and no problems yet. Lots of bang for your buck.

I had my Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime since 2017 and retired it this year a few days ago. I still use it as I need it for android studio and it has nice functions I can work with. But over all the storage got to small for my day to day. So I upgraded to the Samsung A23 4G. It has all the functions I need and use everyday. Very happy with mine. I got the 64Gb storage version and it runs well enough. It also have 4Gb or RAM and has e Adreno 610 GPU.

you can check out the specs here: Samsung Galaxy A23 4G

Just a note I got mine on special so just over the R3k mark but it is worth the R400 extra I paid for mine.

I use to also have a Samsung Galaxy A03 Core that I used for development but my kid is using it now. As a developer I run trough phones so I tend to buy second hand but never on contract.

Truth is the Emulators are really good BUT sometimes when I do software like a chat bot or stuff like that I need real phones to test on. So at any given time I have 4 to 5 phones "all of them second hand" testing the bots making sure it works as intended.
