Looking for a laptop

That's a very tight budget for the work intended! A standalone PC will do much better. But, if it must be a laptop, look at my first option:

Toshiba Satellite C850 Series C850-F21F at Esquire o for R4699. It's an i5 Sandy Bridge, with 4GB RAM. No dedicated GPU though. You'll have to ask them about stock availability.

An i3 at Rebeltech: ASUS X54C-SX021V, Intel Core i3-2350M

You should try and get that i5. But, if you can't, any of these other laptops will do.

EDIT: Try getting an Ivy Bridge laptop if the laptop doesn't come with a dedicated GPU. The Intel HD4000 graphics is a good step from HD3000.

Thanks but I would prefer not to buy from Esquire due to after sales support. Also the one from Rebel Tech is sold out and the two from laptop direct are over budget.

So all in all I think the Lenovo is good.

Cool. The Lenovo would be fine according to your budget, but not fine in terms of video encoding. Hope you get a good deal! :)

Yes, this will be much better! Good spot! Just remember that it is 1066 RAM and not 1333 when you get extra RAM.

But either will work in it. I tested a set of G.Skill 1600 ram in it and it worked fine. (Obviously downclocked though)
