MSI wind baby, not dual core, but cheap awesome, well rounded complete with a 10" screen (not quite 10.1" but who gives a sht about 0.1"..really?) has the atom proccessor that pumps out enough multimedia goodness to keep you happily watching all the vids and music that you want (not that you really whould want to do that on a netbooks 10" screen now). Pop on eeebuntu if you have linutical anxiety and your in heaven. The netbook doesnt look shabby, looks more expensive than it is and will have all the ladies at work/campus going 'aaaw thats cute"..buy it and thank me later

Lets just say i started with 8.9" netbook, i took one home and almost needed eye surgery the next day. Took a 10.1" home , same thing, - ***** im giving my age away. I need something compact for varsity and travelling but also with enough beef to fook around with VM and watch some movies when travelling. I have a 15'4", but its too big to lug around. 13/14" is looking just fine. Budget, lets say on the sub side of R6k, not sure if im pushing it or not - i dont need optical drive.

I was going to recommend a Thinkpad X301 but I don't think it will fit in you budget. Most 13" notebooks fall in the ultra portable category and usually have a price premium attached.
