After nearly missing my flight this evening from OR to CPT due to the battery dying on me while in the middle of Randburg, I'm looking for a decent power bank or car charger that can charge my phone while I'm using the GPS.

I have a 950xl and while the rental car has a usb socket, it just could not charge the phone while using the GPS. Ended up plugging it into my Dell Tablet which had a slightly better charging rate. I still had to wait at least 30 minutes for it to have sufficient charge before I could attempt to start the GPS.

Can someone also try and explain why Windows maps on the 950 was trying to take me to the middle of nowhere when searching for OR Tambo International.

When I searched using the built in maps, it tried sending me here with a driving time of 7 hours . Had to stop at a garage to get proper directions.

Buy a cigarette charger that comes from a cellphone shop like MTN, Cell C. Never buy the ones from the side of the road.

Use google maps, nothing beats it.

Fake site? Poor editing?

Agree Google maps best. Or professional gps companies.

This is from the original built in windows maps running with HERE maps. The previous HERE Maps was better and never had an issue like this before.

Anything in particular to look for in a cigarette charger?

I'm using the original USB cable that came with the phone.

Dischem sell a Polaroid 10000mAh power bank that charges at both 1 and 2 amps using separate ports. It's cheap but it works.

Romoss sailing from takealot, that is all.
I use mine when I travel and can charge my ipad once and phone twice off the same charge on the powerbank(if that makes sense)
its easier to take a powerbank that you dont need power than to use a cigarette lighter charger.

+1 to Romoss brand.

Have found that the cheaper brands tend to charge longer and batteries drain faster over time.

Have a couple of them and always have the Sailing 4 (10,000mAh) in my travel bag. Can charge my phone up to 3 times and fully charge the tablet (8,000mAh). If you need a once off charge only, then 2000 - 3000 mAh should suffice.

There's not much difference between the Solo and Sailing models (other than capacity and efficiency).

2.1A output ("fast charge") should be sufficient to charge the phone while using GPS.

Got a Romoss 5200mah which is about a year old and a Samsung 20000mah one. The Samsung can do about 5 charges on my phone

Thanks for all the responses. Ended up getting an Energea 10 000mah one from Cellucity. It has two ports. 1A and 2.1A and dual charging capability.

It says the 1A is for smart phones and the 2.1A for tablets. How safe is it to use the 2.1A port for my 950?

The device won't pull more than it can take.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but Romoss Solo versus Sailing- from what I can tell, the Sailing comes with Samsung cells which are supposed to be better, while the Solo comes with no name cells and is priced cheaper.

Any first hand negatives on buying and using a Solo over a Sailing?

Been using the 7800mah for nearly two years and it still works without flaw.

Won a 16000mAh Solo and so far no issues at all :)
