Hey

Finally time to stop borrowing from my friends and get a printer of my own.

Requirements are:
- HP or Canon (I refuse to buy Lexmark)
- 3 in 1 (Print/Scan/Copy)
- Ability to print and scan over WiFi

Negotiables, but "nice to haves":
- CD/DVD printing
- Photo printing
- Single inks

To get the ball rolling, and to give you an idea of price range, I'm looking at these two at the moment:
HP CN245C
HP CN547A

Any thoughts, suggestions, warnings?

Picked up the HP CN547A (4500 4 in 1) from Esquire for R799 ex VAT.

Awesome printer with the added option of Fax.

Alternatively, HI-FI Corp has HP 3050 all in 1 Wireless for R699.

I like the specs but it gets some shocking reviews on the HP site and on Amazon.
Glad to hear some positive feedback about it.

Yes, the reviews have generally been poor. Most people fail in their initial set-up of the device - especially wirelessly.

I would suggest you stay away from the bundled software - you can use 3rd party scan or fax sotware to do those things, but refrain from the HP software - not saying they don't work - they just complicate matters.

Switch on your wireless on PC(s) and printer - go to pc - in control panel under printers, Add Wireless printer - when Windows starts looking online for a driver, stop it and click 'have disk' - insert the bundled HP disk and load the driver from the 'Drivers' folder.

Trust me, you won't have any issues.

And you can scan wireless-ly too?

Yes. How exactly does that work?

Exactly the same as over a normal wired LAN. No different to sending files to the printer, instead the scanner sends images to your pc which controls it via the network.

My HP 6313 does not have wireless but everything is done via the LAN, I have no USB (or other type) connection to it.

OK, let's assume I've only ever scanned using USB. How is it different to that?

Canon pixma MX410 , print+scan+copy+fax , WiFi network ready.

Canon have excellent builds and low cartridge replacement costs.

+1 on canon. HP multi's never last very long...

The Canon MG5240 is nice. (I can sense scope-creep sneaking in, but this ticks pretty much all the boxes, plus all the nice-to-haves).
