Looking for a sim racing driver

I currently race a sim called rFactor in a league called Grand-Prix Online. There main page is at:
www.GrandPrix-Online.com
There forums are at:
http://grandprix-online.com/board/index.php

The league races a custom made F1 mod to try to get as close as possible to the real thing. This means full race distances, pit stops, no refueling, real-time stewards to hand out penalties, world wide broadcast of the event via simrace.tv, real safety car drivers and a whole list of other items that make it a hugely challenging and rewarding experience.

I'm currently driving for and managing a team called Centurion GP. I'm looking for drivers that are willing to commit to all the races and to be available for in-season tests and practice sessions. Races are held on Saturday nights typically on the same weekend as the real Grand Prix at 9PM SA time. The 2012 season will begin sometime in March with the full race schedule, mod download and all other info that will be available well before that.

If anyone is interested, please feel free to check out the GPO forums and PM if you have any questions. I think that would be really something if we can field a South African team with South African drivers.

Deffs interested, could you just use your normal hardware at home?

rFactors hardware requirements according to www.rfactor.net are:

Runs Best With
- Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 processor
- Windows XP
- 2048 MB RAM
- Geforce 7900 GT or Radeon X1900 GT
- 256 MB video RAM
- DirectX 9.0c
- 2.0 GB of hard drive space for installation
- Internet connection required for one-time activation

System Requirements
- 1.4 GHz processor
- Windows 98 SE, ME, 2000, XP, XP 64-bit, Vista, 7 (will NOT run in Windows 95 or Windows 98 first edition)
- 512 MB RAM
- Geforce4 4200 or Radeon 9200
- 128 MB video RAM
- DirectX 9.0c
- 2.0 GB of hard drive space for installation
- Internet connection required for one-time activation

rFactor was released in 2005/6 and has low hardware requirements. The essential hardware for competing at the level required for GPO is a steering wheel and pedals. Unfortunately, the decent ones are not cheap. The el-cheapo wheels will only frustrate you in the long term.

I recommend the following wheels:

Logitech Momo

Logitech Driving Force GT

Logitech G25/27

There are some real high-end wheels and pedals from Fanatec that cost a fortune:

as well as some that are wheels only that you just bolt onto an existing G25/27 chassis:

If you have a wheel and need advice on how to set it up, e.g., sort out total amount of rotation, pedal sensitivity, FFB plugins etc, please reply to this thread or PM me.

I'm currently running a i5 750 CPU, GTX 260 graphics, 12gigs RAM and a G27 wheel and pedals. This spec is more than sufficient. My previous system that ran quite well was a laptop with a Core2Duo 2.2 Ghz CPU, ATI Radeon 2400XT, 4gigs RAM and a Logietch Momo wheel.

In the league i'm racing in, we have up to 26 drivers on the grid that are from all over the world. My first team mate for 2011 was from Georgia (the country). He barely spoke english but but had decent speed. My second team mate was from England. Lot easier to talk to. :)

Here's a video showing a track preview of the Melbourne track. Commentary is by Jack Nicholls, our former race commentator. He's since been poached and is now on TV doing commentary for the European F2 series. We are only allowed to drive from cockpit view. This vid gives you a good idea of what its like to actually drive rFactor in qualifying.

rFactor has the capability of generating telemetry data via a data acquisition plugin. The log file written by this plugin can be read by the Motec Interpreter. Here's a couple of screenshots of Motec telemetry:

I did use it a few times but the important settings e.g. dampers and springs tend to fly over my head. There are guys that use it all the time for improving their setups but I tend to get lost in a great big pile of information.

rFactor is $40, I think. Everything else, software wise, is free. The Motec software, plugins, mods etc is all free. I'll go confirm that price.

The new guy is quite good, actually. Also, if anyone here has any aspirations of being a motorsport commentator, just get a F1 video from YouTube or somewhere that does not have commentary, add you own, upload it to YouTube and send me the link. I'll send it to the GrandPrix Online admins and see what happens. GPO always has problems getting regular commentators because the good ones are in high demand by various leagues.

Sorry for jumping onto this thread with a tiny derail but I haven't played rFactor since I got my Mac... After reading this, I went and had a look at the rFactor site and found the rFactor 2 link... Might just be time for Boot Camp.
Also found this *sigh*

rFactor 2 is supposed to be released soon. Meaning: the next few hours/days. No definite info yet. This should be the public beta. However, some guys are saying they already have the full game and race2play.com are advertising a rFactor 2 deal. In other words, when I see an official link from ISI to download the beta or buy the full version, i'll believe it.

The Red Bull PlaySeat is quite nice. Unfortunately, the cheapest version, thats just the seat, no wheel or pedals is £929. The top of the range version, the one you linked to, is £2325.

Might as well get one of these:
