I'm looking for a socket 462 motherboard with an AGP slot. I'm in Cape Town.

Hi xeo,

I'm a bit clueless with motherboards ... it's a around 4 years old, the caps have leaked and the board is dead.

The CPU is an AMD, model number AXDA26000KV3D and uses DDR400 RAM.

So can I use a socket 775 motherboard then? Are they still available?

Thanks ic, I saw the classifieds, just a bit quiet. This forum is very active and I need a new board soonish ...

I say u prepare for the big upgrade (mobo, ram, cpu). If u have under 2k u can get a dual core upgrade. Shop around though, check here www.pcint.co.za

The thing is this PC is our demo PC and worked fine for what it is supposed to do, so I'd rather spend the R150-R250 for a second hand board at this time.

+1

I was in exactly the same situation like a year ago. My 462 board also died one me. Upgraded to dual core with all the bells and whistles and it was well worth it.

Can try to sell the rest of the old components in the classifieds sections. Don't think you'll get much for it all, but it's better than nothing :)

If it was only a few of the caps I'd do that, but in all 11 has leaked, making a repair less likely to be reliable.

CAP replacement is pretty easy on the older boards. Should be too much of a problem.

If it's a demo PC, and you don't need any special PCI cards etc required for the demo, then I suggest that you consider one or more VMware licenses and turn several [VMware Player is free] PCs into demo'able machines...

Sounds like you need to change the jumpers on the board. Older (no offense) boards have the actual jumper which is used to determine the FSB, most times.Check out your manual that came with the board. Also make sure that the voltage and FSB settings in the BIOS is correct. That should resolve your current problem.
