I'm looking for an easy way to switch the data connection between 2g and 3g, but all I find is a shortcut to the settings menu. Anyone know of something?

I've not been able to find a widget that would automatically toggle for you.
Try "2G-3G OnOff". It's a shortcut to the specific setting so speeds up the process... although it does not automate it.

Its part of a google security measure placed in at 2.3, only way around it would be a custom rom.
AS long as you using stock,t he shortcut to that settings menu will be the only way to do it.

My SE phone has a such a widget and I was able to find one on the market for my sister's HTC ChaCha as well so search there (I'm afraid I don't remember what it is though and she and her phone aren't here at the moment).
Widgetsoid 2.x might also be of help.

Extended Controls has a toggle that does this. Currently using on HTC Desire Z running Gingerbread.

Edit: It's actually a shortcut to the shortcut in the settings menu item not a toggle but I find it easier than scrolling to the shortcut via the main menu.
