Hi,

Here was a thread somewhere about robot traders or algorithmic traders, can someone link me to it I just can't seem to find it.

I don't have the link, but I have a robot trader on one of my old PCs. It made +-$5300 in 6 months only to lose most of it because the PC reset due to power outages...be careful with them.

It was only used in conjunction with the Meta Trader platform. This was currency trading, not share trading btw.

Maybe something like Autochartist that rather advises you to do things manually instead of taking over completely?

I prefer fully automated a lot of the times my signals will be at 9am or 2am
in other words - times Im at work or asleep (or not infront of my pc)

I then have MT4 simply send me an SMS that Im in a position

Sorry Ive never heard of Autochartist, so cant comment on it.
There are many options to trade automated systems,
Tradestation, NinjaTrader, IG's system and ProTrader are 4 examples.

My favourite however is Metatrader 4 (not MT5). I like the coding language,
I like the strategy tester...just works for me.
The coding language is similar to a waterered down C/C++ language.

Very few people trade systems in the world, in SA alone there are maybe (maximum) 1,000 people interested in this.
And then even fewer are able to come up with a system that is profitable.

Your question is similar to "Tiger woods made $1mil last year with golf, which is like 1 week of work,
why doesnt everyone else do this?"

No offense intended - but have you ever discovered anything that is profitable and not hard work?

About a year ago I tried to start a club for system traders to get together,
it just didnt seem like many people were interested. There were only about 3 regulars.

All the meetings were completely free...astounded me how little anybody on the markets
were interested. Everyone kept ranting I just "buy the dip" on the stocks...most of those
have become much quiter lately.

SA is still very much in its infant stages with systems trading...forex is still a swear word here.
Unlike Russia, India and US which has been doing this stuff since 1998

This is the answer. Currency trading, like share trading is at best a zero sum game, if you ignore fees. If you want to buy a currency, someone else must be selling it. The question is, will you be the one giving money to someone else, or taking it from someone else, ie are you smarter than the average currency trader.

The currency trading companies though would love it if everyone just moved their money around continuously, as then eventually all the money would turn into fees they can pocket!
