Hi guys

I'm looking for a good-looking cheaper alternative to Apple's Time capsule. I plan to have it permanently connected to my lounge TV's usb 2.0 input for movies and photos and would like to upload and backup files to it wirelessly from my study. Having USB 3.0 is a future-proofing measure.

Any ideas? Thanks!

The max size your TV's usb port will support, is 32GB, if you are lucky. You will have to consult the tv's manual for this.

Thanks for the response Sharkbait. I've got a Samsung Plasma 42C450 that has a media player function. It reads my seagate 500GB 2.5" external fine :) . Doesn't play mkv yet though :( . I'm hoping that future firmware updates will enable that.

Get a mediaplayer (me8eder / AC Ryan / exstreamer) + WiFi. they support up to 2Tb drives and are wifi capable.

if you have a Wii you could even use that as a wireless media center. I use it to stream my videos from my little home server to my tv over wireless network.

The TV already has built in media player software and plays files fine. Its the storage that I need. I don't want to have to plug and unplug everytime I wanna do a backup or transfer new files to the hard drive from my laptop

I was hoping for an Apple Time capsule alternative, anyone know of anything like it?
