Hi all,

Does anyone know of a modem, of which I can configure the factory default settings before it goes to a client?

One of our clients has remote survailance at one of his shops, and when there's a telkom problem, then Telkom tech's always tell them to first reset the modem to factory default settings. Which off cause wipes the DynDNS settings as well as the port forwarding settings needed for the DVR to be accesible from a remote destination.

So, I'm looking for an ADSL modem of which I can preset the factory default settings with the correct DynDNS + port forwarding entries. Does anyone know is something like this exists? And I would prefer a consumer-priced model if possible.

if the client is (and he seems to be) technically proficient, you can always teach them to do a backed up restore of the settings ?

It would certainly require some form of Voodoo magic to modify factory default settings on a DSL Modem (compared to my suggestion anyway)

i'm guesising those settings would be on eprom (almost like cmos/bios) so that they cant be lost. doubt you'll find a router that supports a custom chip like that

Someone has to drive there to fix it everytime it breaks, and it's cheaper to ask someone on-site (who unfortunately isn't a computer boffin) todo it, than to send a tech out (300KM away). But I'm trying to cut-down on downtime & unnecessary support issues. If the Telkom guy can tell them how to reset the modem to factory defaults, then we don't need to help them to get the camera's back up if our settings were already saved in the factory defaults.

Think about it this way. I need to deploy a few more of these setups, where there's only a security station with security guards (i.e. no computer literate people at all), and if I could pre-configure the ADSL modem with the correct ADSL username & password + DynDNS Port Forwarding settings, then I could just phone on of the guards and tell him to push the reset button & hold it untill all the lights flash. i.e. no need to send a tech out to see why a security camera doesn't work :)
