Hi, I decided to go for the monthly Telkom ADSL subscription rather than the 2-year contract. I will therefore need to purchase my own ADSL (Ethernet) modem at a good price.

I would appreciate it if anyone can suggest where I can buy an ADSL modem at a good price?

The D-link DSL-300T is about the best of the really cheap ones. Pinnacle stock them. It doesnt have a microsplitter though, but that depends on if you need it or not.

Im going ( have gone ) the same route. Patiently waiting for telkom to do the install. All they really need to do is wire up the DSLAM to my line and call me. The rest i'll do. Its not rocket science ;-)

Hi there, I am using the Billion 5100S modem/router and it works great. It was very easy to install. I saw that you can now purchase them at www.jump.co.za for only R492 incl VAT. This is really an excellent price for an intergrated ADSL modem/router with ethernet switch. That's the cheapest option I can give you for now. Will let you know if I come across anything cheaper. Good luck!

Kale, do you use P2P apps, and BitTorrent apps etc.? If so, have you had any issues with that router? I'm currently using a piece-of-**** Netgear, DG632 which has known issues with P2P apps.

POS ... hardly ... perhaps you need to RTFM about port forwarding.

Hi MansoN, sorry but I've never really used those apps so can't really give an answer.

I'm not very familiar with these apps, but if you give me a little more info on them and what it is you want to accomplish, then I will be more than willing to try it out on the Billion.

PP1 - I am in the Cape Town area and have a Telkom Marconi USB ADSL modem for R200 - if you are interested.

Thanks guys. I will go with Billion from jump.co.za
