Hello there i have a few questions I wanted to ask about this course at unisa information science and private law.

Could I become a data analyst with this course?

I'm looking to go into IT late on. Could I do it with this degree? My math is bad, and I already redid it twice.

I wanted to ask the people who did the course what jobs were they able to find with the degree?

ChatGPT says yes

Here are some directions you could take:

🔹 Tech & Data-Oriented Careers

  • Data Analyst / Business Analyst → Using your information science background to interpret data for business or policy decisions.
  • Information/Knowledge Manager → Managing organizational data, records, and information systems.
  • IT Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) Specialist → Overseeing how companies handle data and tech systems in compliance with laws.
  • Privacy Officer / Data Protection Specialist → Helping companies comply with data protection regulations (like GDPR/POPIA in South Africa).

🔹 Law + Tech Hybrid Careers

  • Legal Tech Consultant → Working with software that automates legal processes (e-discovery, contract management, AI in law).
  • Cybersecurity & Data Privacy Advisor → Advising organizations on both technical safeguards and legal obligations.
  • Intellectual Property (IP) Analyst → Helping with patents, trademarks, copyright in the tech space.
  • Compliance Analyst / Regulatory Affairs → Ensuring companies follow industry-specific laws (finance, healthcare, telecoms).

🔹 Broader Career Options

  • Policy Analyst → Researching and advising on tech, privacy, or digital rights policies.
  • Corporate Governance Advisor → Supporting boards and executives on compliance and ethics.
  • Research & Academia → Specializing in information law, digital rights, or legal aspects of AI.
  • Consulting → Offering expertise in both information systems and regulatory compliance.

🔹 If You Upskill Further

  • Adding cybersecurity certifications → moves you into info-security & law compliance roles.
  • Adding data analytics/business intelligence → strengthens the analyst career path.
  • Doing a law conversion or LLB → could lead to becoming an attorney specializing in IT, privacy, or IP law.
