Looking for an Internet Starter Pack with K3765 !

Well, the first step will be to see how well the K3765 works with my 3G router (TP-Link MR3420). If that goes well then I will connect an external antenna.

The idea is to use this with Cell C, I cancelled my 4mbps Telkom ADSL, it seldom worked faster than 512kbps even though the line synced at 4mbps.

But I am not at home at the moment, will try that on Saturday.

Hmm, have run some basic tests, but not looking good thus far.

The K3765 has such poor reception, way poorer than the E1820, that I don't believe that it will outperform the E1820 even with an external antenna on the K3765 !

The only thing that I am achieving out of all my testing is to realise that the E1820 is a really good modem.

The only better modem I have seen is the Vodafone K4605 (Huawei E372), and the external antenna connector works!

BTW, have you tried an inductive coupler from Poynting with your E1820?

The only problem with the K4605 is that most 3G routers don't support it - eg I don't believe that the TP-Link MR3420 does.

I tried one of the flat inductive couplings, the ones really meant for phones - does not seem to help much.

Poynting in Wineberg did not have the proper one in stock.

I see Huawei E372 is on the list:

Besides, all Huawei modems I have seen use pretty much the same set of AT commands, so if your software works with one Huawei modem it should work for most without requiring any modification.

Do you think that one can flash the K4605 to a E372 ?

Also, are you sure about the antenna connection, I looked at a K4605 box, it didn't mention it, and you also couldn't see it on the illustration.

They wouldn't let me open the sealed box to have a look.

I think it will work as is.

100%, see here. I had one for a short while (somebody gave me one, but then they asked for it back after I posted this). I really miss that modem.

Edit: You can just make out the cap covering the external antenna connector in the scan I took of the packaging here.
